Washington's Chinatown Green St - a smart street concept
The American Society of Landscape Architects’ Chinatown Green Street demonstration project, in downtown Washington, D.C., is a testing ground for advanced “green,” “complete,” and “smart” street concepts.
This one-block project will tackle the pressing problems of stormwater runoff and pollution, energy inefficiency, and pedestrian safety. At the same time, it will enhance the vitality of the public realm and demonstrate the ability of cutting-edge green infrastructure to support the goals of property and business owners.
Chinatown Green Street is being developed under the auspices of the ASLA Fund and will allow cities everywhere to study its strategies and outcomes, generating lessons that can improve our understanding of how a reimagined infrastructure can profoundly enhance the quality of 21st-century American life.
