Playground Centre collaborates with landscape architects across Aotearoa New Zealand as a playground design-and-build partner. Landscape architects lead the wider vision; we help resolve the play component through play-value planning, equipment design, engineering, compliance, in-house manufacturing and installation.
Backed by more than 30 years of experience and award-winning local design leadership, we bring a placemaking mindset to every project. Early collaboration creates space to test bold ideas against safety, budget, manufacturing and delivery requirements before key decisions are locked in.
A specialist partner for play
Whether the brief is a developed concept, an emerging narrative or a technical challenge, we work within the established design direction. Our role is to strengthen how activities connect, how challenge and inclusive choices are distributed, and how the play experience supports the wider landscape.
At Avon Park in Ōtautahi / Christchurch, Isthmus shaped a contemporary nature-play experience for Christchurch City Council within the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor. Playground Centre supported that vision with customised equipment, including the bespoke Mōrere Swing. Its tall-pole form recalls a historic riverside swing, transforming local heritage into movement, connection and memorable play.
Bespoke by design, made in New Zealand
With in-house design, engineering and manufacturing in Whanganui, a UNESCO City of Design, we can create fully bespoke structures or adapt equipment from our extensive standard range. Form, colour, materials, layouts and activities can be refined to support the project’s visual language, practical requirements and budget.
Muka Park in Ōrewa brings this flexibility to life. Developed for Auckland Council with Boffa Miskell, and informed by cultural narratives shared by Ngāti Manuhiri, the playspace weaves nature, birdlife and storytelling through sculptural petrel forms, timber adventure trails and an interactive musical bridge. Our team refined the bespoke elements for manufacture, installation and durability while protecting the design intent.

At Grant Street Reserve in Havelock North, an inclusive upgrade delivered with Hastings District Council uses recycled soft surfacing, accessible and ground-level play, sensory elements, planting and quieter spaces to welcome broader participation within a compact footprint.
