The CHA Hub: A helpful resource

Earlier this year Community Housing Aotearoa | Ngā Wharerau o Aotearoa held an official launch for the CHA Hub, an online knowledge and research digital platform on all things housing in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Signing up for access to in-depth articles, case studies, videos, podcasts and research available on the CHA Hub is currently free.

Speaking at the launch CHA chief executive Paul Gilberd described the hub as more than a repository and stated "it's a space to reduce friction and to amplify collaboration".

The website is complemented by a pocket sized publication titled the Insight Report, made possible with funding assistance from CHA Hub founding partner Westpac and produced by Sideways Media. In his launch speech, Paul Gilberd made the point that physical publications remain incredibly helpful, and that people "get energised by stories of success".

The Insight Report has now had four editions published:

  1. Community Housing Providers

  2. Financing the future

  3. Inclusionary Housing

  4. Homelessness and housing

A panel brought together for the launch on 12 March in Wellington featured Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa's strategic relationship manager Yvonne Wilson, Murray Edridge the Wellington City Missioner, and housing researcher Dr Kay Saville-Smith.

Kay characterised our housing system as "stuck in a straitjacket" and called the hub a "fantastic initiative" towards the necessity of a major reset and rethink - both to shift perceptions of housing as welfare and to take steps to remedy perpetual underinvestment in the sector.

In 2024 Community Housing Aotearoa celebrated 20 years in operation, having survived a constant rollercoaster of changes in housing policy and governmental structural reforms as summarised in brief on this timeline [links to PDF].

The CHA 2026 Conference in June in Auckland is being delivered in three stages: The National Pacific Housing Symposium (22 June), CHA Conference: Delivering for today, preparing for tomorrow (23-24 June) and site visits (25 June).
